Which tablets have been tested and will work for barcode scanning with USB scanners? - Thu - Nov 1, 2012 - 11:54am

    Options for Scanning with Tablets

We have also done testing with a smaller bluetooth scanner that can communicate with a tablet or mobile phone. Like the free solution mentioned in the discussion above, the bluetooth scanner does work with both the iPhone and iPad, but unfortunately, Apple does not allow us to force the cursor to be blinking in the input field after each scan. This option is better than the free option because the scanner scans both off of paper and off of someone's cell phone. Additionally, this scanner will automatically submit the barcode after each scan so that there is no need to click the "scan" button which makes the process faster and less cumbersome.

We should mention that if you chose to purchase this scanner and use it with some other tablet like the Galaxy Note or Asus, the scanner works beautifully not only submitting the barcode automatically after each scan, but also returning the cursor back into the input field automatically so that the person scanning each ticket never has to touch the tablet screen -- only glance at it to confirm the ticket is valid.

The bluetooth scanner is much smaller than the USB scanner, but it's more expensive at a cost of $420.
