If you've added a description, but you don't see it on the public view, then you probably have set a pre-sale date.

Until the event activates (upon the activation date/time), the description is replaced with the pre-sale announcement text. The two vary so that you can post information like: 'Tickets going on sale May 25 at 10am'. Once the event activates, the standard description will replace the pre-sale announcement.
