ThunderTix includes a Single Seat Prevention setting to help you avoid leaving isolated empty seats on your reserved seating chart.
There are three options:
Disabled – Allows single empty seats to be left anywhere on the seating chart. Allow Aisle (Default) – Prevents single empty seats in the middle of a row but allows them on the aisle. No Single Seats – Prevents single empty seats anywhere on the chart, including aisles.
If a customer is unable to complete a seat selection because of a single-seat rule, it means Single Seat Prevention is enabled. This rule applies only to the general public. Logged-in users, such as staff, can still leave a single empty seat when needed.
Where Single Seat Prevention Can Be Managed
Single Seat Prevention can be controlled in three places:
Seating Chart – Sets the default rule for events using that chart Event – Overrides the seating chart setting for the entire event Performance – Overrides both the event and seating chart setting for a specific date and time
This gives you flexibility to keep one default rule in place while allowing exceptions for individual performances.
Set the Default Rule on a Seating Chart
To change the default Single Seat Prevention setting on a seating chart:
Go to the Seating Charts tab. Find the chart you want to edit. Under Single Seat, click until the desired option appears.
Each event inherits its default Single Seat Prevention rule from its seating chart. To change the rule for one event:
Go to Event Manager >> select your event >> Public Display >> Seating Configuration. Under Single seat prevention, choose the setting you want. Click anywhere on the page to save your changes.
Note: If the event setting does not match the seating chart setting, the event setting will be used.
Change Single Seat Prevention for a Single Performance
You can also control Single Seat Prevention for an individual performance.
Go to Event Manager >> select your event >> Dates & Times.
On the performance list, look for the Singles column. Each performance will show its current setting, such as:
Allow – Single seats may be left open for that performance Prevent – Single Seat Prevention is enforced for that performance
Update the setting for the specific performance you want to change.
This is useful when one date or time should be more restrictive than the rest of the event, such as a high-demand weekend performance.
ThunderTix uses the most specific setting available:
Performance setting overrides the event setting Event setting overrides the seating chart setting
That means you can:
set a default at the seating chart level
adjust it for the full event
make exceptions for specific performances
Disable Single Seat Prevention Entirely
To allow single empty seats anywhere, set the rule to Disabled on the seating chart, or choose the equivalent permissive option at the event or performance level where applicable.
