What are Donor Classifications? - Mon - Dec 2, 2019 - 8:08am

From the Giving tab, you may set Donor Classifications which provide a way for you to categorize donors by their cumulative donations in either a rolling 12-month period or a custom time frame based on your seasonal calendar. Donor classifications are quite similar to fundraising campaign levels however if you have multiple campaigns with multiple levels per campaign, these allow all donations to be grouped together. For example, donors giving over $2500 might be called "Benefactors", and those giving less might be "Friends". As patrons donate, we'll automatically classify them for you based on the levels you set. From the Customer tab under Donation History, you'll be able to search and export by donor classification over either the last 12-month period or a custom timeframe.

To use a rolling 12-month period, choose the "Past 12 months" option. To use a custom timeframe, choose the "Custom" option and enter your preferred custom date range to view All Donors from your defined Donor Classifications. Head to Giving > Donor Classification to customize your dates.

Use this data to invite patrons to achieve higher levels with potentially greater awards such as publication of patron names in handbills, tickets for special performances, etc.

    What is considered a donation?

Donor classification will consider all donations made across all Fundraising Campaigns, monthly Recurring Donations, donations made when purchasing tickets, and donations made from rounding up an order. Setting the Donor Classifications today will immediately allow you to search and download all donors by each level.

What is not considered a donation?

If you are using an "event" to collect donations rather than fundraising campaigns, the system will not know that payments made on that event are donations, rather they are tracked as tickets. Please transition from using events as a way to collect donations to using fundraising campaigns. If you would like to collect donations (and have them properly recorded as a donation rather than a ticket) during the checkout process for an event then you can do this by enabling donations for that event.

Please see our other discussion, How do I make a donation request?, to find out more about linking donations to an Event Listing or opening donations as a part of a stand-alone Fundraising Campaign.
