Enabling social distancing for reserved seating events - Thu - May 21, 2020 - 8:12pm

As states and local governments begin to reopen, we all need to reconsider how to host events safely. To start, please read our guide on questions you should consider before reopening. If you already have a seating chart within your account, you may be able to take advantage of the new social distancing tool.

The integrated options work only with our newest version of seating charts.

How does social distancing seating work?

The seating chart icon for "social distance" seats are denoted in gray with an "X" over the seat. The icon is intended to show customers that the seat is being blocked from sale to provide social distancing between unfamiliar neighbors.

To mark social distance seats, click Manage for your reserved seating event. Then click the "Sell" button to view your seating chart. Right-click on any seat to see options for blocking individual seats or rows for social distance as seen in the image below:

Start by blocking rows. We recommend blocking every other row within your venue to provide spacing in front of and behind patrons.

Use the new, social distance blocking rather than the standard row blocking, so rather than seeing seats as "sold", your customers will see that seats were blocked for social distance to ensure their safety.

Automatic seat blocking saves time Instead of manually blocking seats as customer purchases are made. Our automatic blocking will allow you to block up to anywhere from 1-4 seats on each side of the seats selected. In the Public Display > Seating Configuration tab of any reserved seating event, enable "Automatic social distance spacing" and specify how many seats you'd like to block. Select the number of seats best for your venue.

Customers can purchase any number of seats. As soon as the seats selected are purchased and the order is processed, we'll automatically mark seats as blocked for social distance based on the number of seats entered. The number of seats can be changed or the automatic blocking can be disabled at any time.

Manual seat blocking in addition to blocking by row or using the automated social distancing tool, you have the option to monitor add or remove social distance seats at any time. Managing families booking at the same time In the case that two families or parties choose seats that are side by side to the same event (within the same 1 second of each other), we'll immediately alert you with an email notification of the orders. At that point, you can take action to reseat one of the parties to another area in the venue to maintain social distancing.
