Can I connect my Square reader to the Square App and the ThunderTix app? - Fri - Sep 19, 2025 - 5:33pm

  •  Since the Square reader can only connect to one app at a time, you’ll need to pair it directly within the ThunderTix app and not the Square app. If both apps are installed and active, they’ll compete for the reader, which prevents a secure connection.  While it may be possible to keep both apps installed, they don’t seem to cooperate well when it comes to sharing the reader. 

    Please see below for instructions on how to connect your reader to an Android and iPhone:

     Connecting your Square Reader on Android

    1. Confirm app permissions – Make sure the ThunderTix app has Bluetooth permissions enabled in your phone’s settings.

    2. Turn on your reader – Hold the reader’s button until the lights flash orange, then release. The lights should turn green once it’s ready to pair.

    3. Connect inside ThunderTix (not Square) – Open the ThunderTix app, start a sale, and choose Square Reader as the payment type. You should see a prompt to connect. Wait until the orange bar at the top changes to green, confirming the secure connection.

    4. Close the Square app – Ensure the Square app is fully closed before connecting in ThunderTix. If both apps are open, they’ll conflict.

    5. If it hangs on “Establishing Secure Connection” – Restart your phone, reopen ThunderTix, and repeat the pairing process.


    Connecting your Square Reader on iPhone

    1. Enable Bluetooth – On your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is turned on.

    2. Turn on your reader – Press and hold the reader’s button until the lights flash orange, then release. Lights should turn green once it’s ready to pair.

    3. Connect through ThunderTix – Open the ThunderTix app, begin a sale, and select Square Reader as the payment option. A connection prompt will appear. Once connected, the orange status bar will change to green.

    4. Avoid pairing in iOS settings – Do not try to pair the reader directly in the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings. The connection must be initiated through the ThunderTix app.

    5. Close the Square app – Just like with Android, make sure the Square app is fully closed so it doesn’t compete for the reader.

    6. If connection fails – Restart your iPhone, reopen ThunderTix, and try again.
