How can I limit the number of tickets each customer can buy? - Wed - Mar 14, 2018 - 3:43pm

  • We currently allow you to limit the number of tickets a customer can purchase for a single order. However, any customer can easily process a second order for the same event allowing them to buy twice the limit you set -- or many times the limit by simply repeating the same order.

To set a limit on the number of tickets purchased in a single order, please navigate to:
    Events tab >

    1. Click on the name of your chosen event
    2. Click on Purchase Settings in the secondary navigation menu
    3. Under Restrictions and Waitlist, set your limit on the number of tickets that can be purchased in an order by clicking on the "Unlimited" (number sign) under to MAXIMUM TICKETS PER ORDER
    4. Click the check mark to save
While we could attempt to do additional programming checking to see if that customer's record already bought the maximum tickets allowed for that event, they could again just as easily use an alternate email address or have a spouse or friend use another email address to make the second purchase. Any way you look at it, customers that are determined to "beat the system" will find a way to order more than their allotment making the additional potential programming to stop them moot.

The only option that is 100% fool proof would be to create a coupon code, or maybe a member ID, that is required for every ticket purchased for the event. Then, you can import member ID codes into the coupon section of system limiting the code to a predefined number of uses per event. Then you can enable the option for the event in the Purchase Settings tab labeled, "A valid coupon is required for every ticket purchased". This would prevent anyone from buying additional tickets beyond the number you provided them. Be aware that the caveat to this is that customers that do not have these "coupon codes" would be prevented from buying any tickets at all.

Please see the coupons video tutorial for more information and options.
